Introduction

For more than 80 years, Athens Regional Medical Center has been involved in the provision of health care services in northeast Georgia. While hospital leaders have been successful in meeting the needs of the citizenry, an opportunity to work more closely with local employers has existed for some time .

With the advent of Athens Regional's latest venture, this opportunity is now becoming a reality. By gathering together existing services and adding new services which were needed, Regional FirstCare Occupational Health Services offers preventive medicine concerned with maintaining health, enhancing performance and improving the safety of those employed in any occupation. The first of its kind in the area, Regional FirstCare Occupational Health Services is committed to providing conservative quality medical care to injured or ill workers while maintaining close communication with the employer.

Regional FirstCare Occupational Health Services will be able to work one-on-one with local employers to help them provide preventive services to employees which will decrease the injury and illness rates at their workplace, increase employee health and productivity and decrease workers compensation costs .This innovative program is under the professional leadership of Brian G. Forrester, MD, MPH . Dr. Forrester is residency trained and board certified in occupational medicine, the first such physician to practice in the northeast Georgia area.
