Radiation Oncology offers a comprehensive array of treatment options for the cancer patient, including external beam therapy, HDR and radioactive prostate seed implants. In early 2003, our facility will be one of the few in Georgia to offer Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), which delivers a more uniform dose of radiation to the tumor site, but less to normal tissue.
Our new location, in the Medical Services Building, houses the latest in state-of-the-art equipment, such as: the Varian 2300EX, GE CT Simulator, MDS Nordion HDR unit, Varian Eclipse and ADAC treatment planning systems. A Varis record and verify system is in place for treatment delivery to ensure the safest possible radiation therapy treatments for our patients.
We have a dedicated and caring staff comprised of certified radiation oncologists, therapists, physicist, dosimetrist, nurse, therapist aide and medical secretaries. In addition, our patients are offered the services of social workers, dietary service, and the Loran Smith Cancer Center.
The new department was designed to maximize patient comfort and convenience with bright colors and open spaces. On the average, we deliver treatments to 45-50 patients per day and our ultimate goal is to offer them the best of everything: staff, equipment and our support. |
