Welcome to Radiology Nursing. Radiology is a very exciting and rapidly growing area. Many procedures that were previously done in the OR are now being performed in radiology. All staff possess strong nursing backgrounds with additional training specific to Radiology. Each nurse is multi-skilled and has the ability to work in all areas of Radiology.
Nursing staff are well versed in the care of all angiography patients from healthy to critically ill. They are current with the most advanced changes in technology of equipment and medications. They are knowledgeable in Conscious Sedation ensuring patients receive the specialized care that they deserve. These are very busy modalities serving both inpatients and outpatients. These procedures present a conscious sedation challenge when it comes to pediatric patients. All nurses are competent and PALS certified as well as credentialed in conscious sedation. The nurse also provides physical and emotional support during procedures.
Nursing skills are required for IVP’s and VCUG’s. IV insertions, and catheter insertion for VCUG’s.
The main role of the nurse in Nuclear Medicine is a supportive one. Insertion of difficult IV’s, and passport access.
Nursing responsibilities include patient assessment, IV insertion,
glucose monitoring. A close liaison is maintain with the Nuclear Radiologist,
and technologists. A calm and quiet atmosphere is is essential to obtain
optimal results.
The Nurses role in US is to coordinate invasive procedures. The nurses
possess excellent communication skills, as they are the liaison between
nursing units, techs, radiologists, lab, and most importantly the patient.
