The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Athens Regional Medical Center has been a vital component of cardiac care in Northeast Georgia since 1977. Since that time, the department has grown to encompass three state-of-the-art completely digital networked catheterization suites, which provide the highest quality imaging available. The information these images provide is a vital component of our continuum of caring for the patient, which begins with the cardiologist’s assessment and proceeds through diagnostic heart catheterization, angioplasty and/or stenting, or permanent pacemaker insertion.
Ranked as one of the Top 100 hospitals in the United States for interventional cardiology (angioplasty and stenting), the Cath Lab at ARMC is staffed by a highly trained, specialized group of nurses, technologists, respiratory therapists, and assistants who support twelve board-certified cardiologists in completion of procedures. The latest balloons, stents and life-saving equipment and drugs are at hand. Emergency care is provided twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and non-emergency cases are scheduled immediately so that the patient is able to obtain the follow up care needed. While many patients can be treated with angioplasty and/or stenting immediately following the diagnostic cath, we also work closely with the open-heart surgery team when appropriate.
