ARMC Places Second In National Competition

ATHENS, GA (April 8, 2002) --- Athens Regional Medical Center's Material Services Department recently received second place honors in the Voluntary Hospitals of America (VHA) competition. The VHA presents awards each year to hospitals and health systems that develop innovative ways to improve their organization. The Material Services Department was recognized for its outstanding product standardization and increased GPO (Group Purchasing Organization) contract participation. After implementing new strategies, the department has produced over $1 million dollars in cost savings for ARMC during the past two years.

Joseph Horvath, ARMC's Material Services Director, said he's very pleased with the recognition his department received.

" With the help of clinicians, Product Analysis Team, Material Services, and Administration, ARMC was able to achieve outstanding savings through standardization," he said. "Its an honor for us to be recognized by our peers."

David Lloyd, ARMC's Purchasing Director, said by achieving its goal, the Material Services Department was able to improve operational efficiencies, implement an ordering system that capitalized on GPO contracts, and to improve customer satisfaction.
