Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
This program provides structured services for individuals who have cardiac disease or a recent cardiac event. The goal of Cardiac Rehab is to enable an individual to return to their normal activities as soon as possible and to prevent a recurrence of illness. A doctor's order is required. Individualized programs are designed for participants and include monitored exercise, activity and education. Call 475-5960 for more information.

Nutrition Counseling Services
Meet with a registered dietitian for individualized nutrition recommendations. No referral is necessary, by appointment only. The cost is $25 for initial visit and $15 for follow-up. Call Jennifer Burnell at 475-2252 for more information or call ARMC's Nutritional Services at 475-3686 to schedule an appointment.




PARENT CHILD PROGRAMS*
Classes are designed for expectant mothers and father/support persons. Those who plan to deliver at Athens Regional Medical Center may attend classes at no charge. (Exceptions: Big Kids & Babies - $10 per child, Infant Safety & CPR - $10 per person or $15 per couple and Prenatal Yoga - $40 per month). Call ARMC's Health Education at 475-5620 for reservations and more information. Scholarships available for all classes

Breastfeeding: A Bond of Love
Athens Regional Medical Center offers a class highlighting the benefits of breastfeeding; learning about and preparing to breastfeed; and trouble-shooting. The class is free for those delivering at Athens Regional Medical Center and $20 otherwise. Offered Wednesday, June 25 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Call ARMC's Health Education at 475-5620 for more information and to register.

Breastfeeding and Working
Athens Regional Medical Center offers a class for mothers planning to return to work or school and who wish to continue breastfeeding. The class will cover planning, schedules, breast pumps and pumping. The class is free for those delivering at ARMC and $20 otherwise. Offered Thursday, June 5 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Call ARMC's Health Education at 475-5620 for more information.

Childbirth Refresher
Athens Regional Medical Center offers a class for couples with previous childbirth experience and reviews information and skills used in prepared childbirth. The class is free for those delivering at Athens Regional Medical Center and $20 otherwise. Offered Wednesday, June 18 from 6 - 9:30 p.m. Call ARMC's Health Education at 475-5620 for more information and to register.

Infant Safety and CPR
Athens Regional Medical Center offers a course that covers basic safety and injury prevention for infants (birth to one year). Infant CPR, including conscious and unconscious choking, is included. The cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple. Offered Wednesday, June 11 from 6 - 9:30 p.m. Call ARMC's Health Education at 475-5620 for more information and to register.

The Next Step
Athens Regional Medical Center offers a class for parents of newborns and babies to six months old to assist with the transition to parenthood. Babies are welcome (please check with your pediatrician about how old your baby should be before he/she is taken out into a group). No pre-registration is required. Special Delivery
Athens Regional Medical Center offers a six-week course that covers childbirth preparation, newborn care and post-partum adjustment. The class is free for those delivering at Athens Regional Medical Center and $60 otherwise. Offered Mondays, June 2-July 7 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. OR Tuesdays, June 3-July 8 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Call ARMC's Health Education at 475-5620 for more information and to register.

Special Delivery Saturdays
Athens Regional Medical Center offers a Saturday course for expectant parents who cannot attend the 6-week evening class series that covers childbirth preparation, newborn care and post-partum adjustment. Content covered will be the same as in the 6-week series. Please note that these classes will be fast-paced. The next classes will be held Saturdays, June 14 and 21 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. The class is free for those delivering at Athens Regional Medical Center and $60 otherwise.

Just For Dads
This class is taught by dads, for dads and will cover childbirth, newborn care and what to expect the first few weeks from a father's perspective. Held the 5th class of 6-week Special Delivery series, the next class will be offered Monday, June 2 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. or Tuesday, June 3 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Call ARMC's Health Education at 475-5620 for more information and to register.

Prenatal Yoga
Athens Regional Medical Center offers a four-week series of classes that begin the first Thursday of each month. Classes will help mom calm and focus her mind; decrease discomforts of pregnancy; increase energy; strengthen back, abdominal and pelvic muscles; and increase focus during labor and delivery. Bosom Buddies of Georgia, Inc., Athens Chapter
This discussion group, specifically for women with breast cancer, meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support. Susan Nemetz, RN, BSN, and Lauren Richards, LMSW, are the facilitators. For more information, contact the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at 475-4900.

Coming to Grips with Chronic Illness
The Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support offers a support group open to anyone with any chronic condition. Offered the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 10-11 a.m., Lauren Richards, LMSW, is the facilitator. Facing Cancer with Love and Laughter Support Group
The Loran Smith Center of Cancer Support offers a general support group for patients, family and friends that meets twice a month. Offered the 1st Thursday of each month from 7-8:30 p.m. and the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Contact The Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at 475-4900 for more information.

Healing Grief
The Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support offers a nine-week workshop for those who have lost someone through death. The loss does not have to be a cancer related death. Contact the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at 475-4900 for meeting date and time.

Meeting the Challenge When Cancer Recurs
The Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support offers a support group for patients and family members experiencing recurrent or metastatic cancer. Offered the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 11 a.m., Mona Mercardante, LCSW, is the facilitator. Those interested in more information should call the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at 475-4900.

Ovarian Cancer Chat Group
This monthly discussion group for women managing a diagnosis of ovarian cancer is offered the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 1 - 2:30 p.m. Facilitated by Susan Nemetz, RN, BSN, contact the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at 475-4900 for more information.

Quality of Life Series
The Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support offers a series of one-hour programs for individuals going through cancer treatment that addresses the side effects associated with treatment. Every program is free of charge and is open to any interested cancer patients or family members. Topics include Nutrition and Cancer Treatment, Pain Management, and Managing Fatigue. Look Good... Feel Better
The Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support offers a free makeup, skin care, hair care program for ladies currently going through chemotherapy or radiation treatment (or ladies that are just finishing this treatment). KidsCope
A free six-week program offered to children between the ages of 8 and 12 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Contact the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at 475-4900 for meeting date and time.

Teen Grief
A free six-week program offered to young adults ages 12-18 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Contact the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at 475-4900 for meeting date and time.

CO-OP (Children of Oncology Patients) Program
Athens Regional Medical Center's Loran Smith Center for Cancer Supports offers a program for any child between the ages of 5-18 who has a parent/grandparent with cancer. Offered the 1st Thursday of the month from 7-8:30 p.m. Contact the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at 475-4900 for more information.

Reiki
Reiki (pronounced "ray-kee") is a 3000 year old healing art, which originated in Tibet and Japan. It is a form of touch therapy that is spiritually based. Bobby Tyler, Reiki Master will be facilitating. Call the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at 475-4900 for more information and to make an appointment.




DIABETES EDUCATION
Athens Regional Medical Center's Diabetes Education Service has been awarded recognition by the American Diabetes Association in accordance with the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education programs. For more information and appointments, call (706) 475-5600.

Diabetes Consultation
Individual consultation with a Diabetes Educator for problem-solving and support is offered by Athens Regional Medical Center by appointment. Call 475-5600 for more information and to schedule an appointment.

Diabetes Outpatient Program
This comprehensive educational program includes individual consultation plus complete self-management skills training classes. Foot and eye screenings are available to participants. Included in the outpatient program is an eight-week introductory exercise class. Participants will be required to check their own blood sugar before and after each exercise session. These sessions are offered Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays from 9-10 a.m. and Mondays and Thursdays from 5-6 p.m. A physician's order will be required. Pre-registration is required for all aspects of the Diabetes Outpatient Program. Call 475-5600 for more information and to register.

ABC's of Diabetes
Athens Regional Medical Center offers single topic lectures that cover various aspects of diabetes self-management and healthy living. You don't have to have diabetes to attend. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $5 per person. The Basics of Nutrition will be held on Tuesday, June 10 and Grocer Store Tour will be held on Tuesday, June 24 (spaces are limited). Diabetes Support Group
Athens Regional Medical Center offers a support group for people with diabetes and their caregivers. The next meeting's topic will be Traveling with Diabetes Around Home and Far with speaker Melanie Bryan, RN, CDE and will be held on Monday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m. Call ARMC's Diabetes Education Services at 475-5600 for more information.

Healthy Habits... for a Lifetime
Athens Regional Medical Center offers a program designed for people diagnosed with pre-diabetes or for those who are at risk for developing diabetes. The focus is on developing healthy eating and exercise habits to promote weight loss and weight management for a lifetime of good health. A physician's order is required. Insulin Pump Support Group
Athens Regional offers this free support group for current insulin pump users and future pump users. The group provides support for insulin pump users, an opportunity to discuss diabetes issues with people who share concerns; education about insulin pumping and related topics; and guest speakers to keep members up-to-date on the latest developments concerning diabetes. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 10 at 7 p.m. in the Diabetes Education Services Classroom. Those interested should call 475-5600 for more information and to register.

Yoga for Health and Relaxation (Prerequisite: Introduction or Foundation Practice)
These ongoing classes, offered to multi-level yoga students, build on the foundation learned in introductory classes. Postures will be held longer, new variations, more postures and breathing techniques will be added to deepen your practice. Offered Mondays from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Purchase punch cards: $60 for six sessions or $110 for 12 sessions. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR): An Evening of Mindfulness for Alumni
Designed for MBSR alumni to experience an evening of "non-doing." Join the expanding community of mindfulness practitioners for an evening of sharing ideas and experiences, breathing, gentle yoga, body scan, and meditation. Hypertension Support Group
A new support group for people who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. Participants will learn how to control this potentially life-threatening and disabling medical condition. Spouses and family members are encouraged to attend.

Laryngectomy Support Group
A support group for people who have laryngeal cancer.

A discussion group for oncology nurses and social workers.
