![]() Hospital Volunteer Named Humanitarian of the Year At a reception Tuesday night, May 21, 2002, at Trumps at the Georgian, The Pillar Society of the Athens Regional Foundation presented the J.W. Fanning Humanitarian of the Year award to Mrs. Huebner. This award is named for J.W. Fanning, the late Vice-President of the University of Georgia who was a Hospital Authority member and well-respected leader in the Athens community and in the state. The recipient must show a significant contribution to the hospital as well as the community it serves. "She has given countless hours on behalf of Athens Regional," said Len Sapera, Chairman of the Athens Regional Foundation. "From her daily efforts to her past leadership role with the Auxiliary, we are always in her heart. Her loyalty and long-term dedication are exceptional. We have been blessed to know her." He said many organizations have benefited from her efforts, including Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the University Women's Club, and the Beechwood Garden Club. She also served as President of the Athens Woman's Club. Past winners of the J.W. Fanning Humanitarian of the Year award include: Charlie Upchurch, Jr.; John "Buck" Griffin; Louise Boyce; Dr. Bothwell Traylor; Mary Beth McDonald; Howard Stroud; Jan Rhodes; Sapera; Karen Atkinson, Tal Duvall and Dr. Stephen Lucas. |
