Mindfulness Meditation Training

Do you struggle with busyness, stress, or difficulty sleeping? Mindfulness is a way of being present in every moment and has been proven to help with many health difficulties. It is thought to facilitate reconnection of the body and the mind in a conscious and compassionate manner.

The Mind Body Institute in now offering individual mindfulness meditation training sessions. Clients will practice increasing awareness of the body, mind, and heart - observing what is going on internally and externally. Several techniques will be used to allow the mind and body to communicate again. Strengthening this innate ability rekindles this skill in order to promote balance and well-being.

Rebecca Shisler-Marshall, PhD completed her Master's in Speech-Language Pathology (MSP) in 1998 and her PhD in Experimental Cognitive Psychology in 1999. She is a licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologist and an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia. Beginning in graduate school, Rebecca also become a student of yoga and has continued for the last nine years. She began meditating and became a student of Zen meditation and mindfulness eight years ago based in Thich Nhat Hahn's tradition. For the past three years, she has increased her commitment to her own practice through attending various yoga, meditation, facilitation workshops and meditation retreats on Awareness and Mindfulness under the guidance of various individuals. Rebecca also participated in a seven-day professional training program for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction under the direction of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Dr. Saki Santorelli.

Mike Healy, Ed.D. has practiced meditation for 27 years, 18 years of which has been Mindfulness Meditation, and has taught this program for several years at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Athens Mind Body Institute. Healy has participated in a seven-day professional training program under the direction of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, founder, and Dr. Saki Santorelli, director of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Clinic (MBSR) at the University of Massachusetts Medical School; has completed the Teacher Development Intensive at the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness; and has had additional training attending multi-day mindfulness meditation retreats. Healy completed a doctorate in Adult Education at the University of Georgia, studying the mindfulness meditation transformational learning process
