Mind Body Medicine - an integrated approach to health.

Mind Body Medicine presents an integrated system that treats the whole person. It draws on the body's natural ability to heal using techniques such as nutrition, meditation and yoga to help transform the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of one's life. It makes use of the extraordinary interconnectedness of the mind, body and spirit and the power of each to affect the other. The programs, treatment plans and clinical services are designed to promote prevention and wellness, as well as to treat chronic conditions by returning both the body and mind to natural, healthy function.

Today's demanding modern lifestyles, although advantageous in many ways, have created a host of health issues uncommon in previous generations. Imbalances result when the body is unable to maintain equilibrium, creating stress, anxiety, depression and other disorders which can lead to chronic illness. Incorporating a broad spectrum of therapeutic interventions results in greater opportunities to create balance and impact the body's ability to maintain health.

As a holistic healing center, the Mind Body Institute offers its array of services within three areas of endeavor that overlap and complement each other: Clinical Services, Educational Programs and Research.

Clinical Services: Physicians and trained, professional staff members provide assessment, diagnosis and follow-up of health status and medical conditions. This may include recommendations for specific therapeutic interventions, such as lifestyle and dietary modifications, nutritional supplements, educational programs and acupuncture. In conjunction with standard care from your physician, the practice of mind body medicine as determined by the Medical Director includes:

  • Testing to assess function
  • Diagnosis of problems that interfere with healing and staying healthy
  • Treatment that supports and strengthens the body's own systems of healing
  • Monitoring progress

What is emphasized is not so much the disorder, but rather the functions of the body that need to be strengthened to expel or lessen the disease process. This restoration process usually takes more time and patient participation than standard medical treatments, with you becoming the center of the healing process.

Educational Programs: Education is the key to incorporating mind body medicine into our lives. It offers direct experience of the benefits of an integrative approach and the healing power available within us. Opportunities are provided for patients, healthcare providers, employees and the general public to expand their knowledge and explore new dimensions of healing and self-care. It is through educational programs that individuals are given the knowledge and skills to deepen their understanding and take an active role in their healthcare.
Programs are tailored for a wide range of needs - from prevention and wellness to acute and chronic disease care.

Research: The Mind Body Institute is fully committed to applying scientific scrutiny to all services, programs and therapies regarding safety and efficacy. We continue to develop partnerships with those in academia, industry and public health to ensure only the highest standards are met. Ongoing outcome-based research is conducted to assess and support the effectiveness of our services and programs.

Ancient Wisdom... Modern Well-Being: Although our mind body treatments are based in modern scientific knowledge, the historic basis of mind-body medicine can be found in traditional eastern medicine. The defining philosophy is that the whole person and nature are systematically interrelated. Chinese medicine, dating back 2,500 years, and Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India, dating back 5,000 years, have evolved to highly sophisticated systems of techniques and methods that have universal application in modern healthcare.
These methods include acupuncture, herbal medicines, yoga, meditation, acupressure, massage and constitutional typing. By 220 A.D., a formidable body of medical experience had been documented, leading to the establishment of preventive medicine, fist aid, pathology and dietetics, as well as breathing practices to promote longevity - all supporting the idea that the mind, body and spirit work together to promote and sustain health.
