Who are the Volunteers?

Volunteers are local residents or individuals from surrounding communities. They represent all segments of society and range in age from teenagers to senior citizens. They are men, women, students, homemakers and retirees, as well as those who have full- or part-time jobs. But they all have one thing in common. They enjoy helping others!

Volunteers need no special training to get involved. Interested applicants are interviewed, and special talents and personal schedules are matched to the hospital's needs. Most volunteer approximately four hours once a week however, additional hours are always welcome. Evenings and weekend volunteers are always needed as well as weekdays.

What are the benefits of volunteering?

While volunteers offer their services free of charge to ARMC, they do receive many benefits. They have a chance to learn new skills while making new friends and developing new interests. Some volunteers use this time to explore new career options and use their experience for further education or employment opportunities. Research also indicates that people who volunteer live longer. Most of all, volunteers receive the satisfaction that comes from being needed and doing something worthwhile that helps others.

How to become a volunteer at Athens Regional Medical Center:

Call the Volunteer Services Department at Athens Regional Medical Center at 475-3510 and leave your name, address and a telephone number. An application will be mailed to you. After returning the completed application, call and schedule an interview with a Volunteer Services staff member.

Once your application has been accepted, the staff will help you determine an area of interest and a schedule that is suitable to your needs.

Volunteers must also complete health screen requirements and hospital orientation before beginning their service.
