For over 20 years, Athens Regional Medical Center (ARMC) has provided our community with excellent obstetrical care through its Nurse-Midwifery Services. The ARMC program, founded in 1977, is recognized as a model program for the entire state of Georgia.What is a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM)? A CNM is a registered nurse who has received advanced education in both nursing and midwifery. At ARMC, all Nurse-Midwives are certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives for their breadth of education and specialized skills. Studies show that the personalized care given by CNMs is both safe and satisfying. The close attention and skilled care have a proven connection to a low rate of episiotomies, cesarean sections, premature babies and low-birth weight babies. Spectrum of Care The midwives at ARMC provide a broad spectrum of care for women, throughout pregnancy and beyond. We offer:
Where Can You Find Us? The ARMC Nurse-Midwifery Service, comprised of 7 CNMs and 8 support staff, provides care from offices on the ARMC campus. We also work closely with the Clarke County Health Department, Northeast Georgia Health District, a social worker, nursing staffs of ARMC and medical consultants. Births are attended in the in-hospital Birthing Center at ARMC. CNMs perform normal deliveries independently with physicians available for consultation or referral should complications arise. Most private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and managed-care programs cover Nurse-Midwifery services. For further information, please call (706) 475-5700.
