Athens Regional Medical Center offers a variety of special services to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. These include the following:

Athens Regional Medical Center offers a variety of special services to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. These include the following:

The Guest House: Family members of ARMC patients may stay at The Guest House located on Pine Needle Drive behind the parking deck. Guests will be registered on a first-come, first-stay basis. No advance reservations can be accepted. Check-in is between the hours of 3:00 - 7:00 p.m., seven days a week. For more information, please call the Manager at 5400, or dial '0' and ask the operator to page a Patient Representative.

Flowers and Mail: Flowers will be delivered to your room by area florists during the day. Patients in the Intensive Care Units may not have flowers or balloons in their rooms.

Mail will be delivered to your room Monday through Saturday and forwarded to you after you leave. Your address while at Athens Regional is 1199 Prince Avenue, Athens, Georgia 30606-2793. Stamps and stationery may be purchased in the Gift Shop. A Postal Service stamp machine is located in the cafeteria.

Banking: For your convenience, an Automated Teller Machine is located on the first floor opposite the cashier's office in the North Tower. For service related issues regarding the ATM, please call Athens First at (706) 357-7000, Monday -Friday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Patient Education: Channels 42-49 feature a number of health-related programs. Ask a member of the nursing staff for more information.

Using the ARMC Patient Education System

  1. Turn the television to channel 40. Directions for using patient education are available on this channel at all times.
  2. Turn your television to channel 41 to look at the menu of programs available.
  3. After you have selected a program, pick up the phone and dial extension 7474. A voice will tell you to enter the following information:
    a. Your telephone extension, which is your room number. This number is located on the white board under your television or by asking your nurse.
    b. The 3-digit code of the program you wish to view. The 3-digit code is next to each program on the menu channel (41).
  4. The voice will tell you to turn to one of the Patient Education Channels (channels 42-49) to view the program and then to hang up your telephone.
  5. When the program is over, you may change the channel to any of the regular television channels.

Private Duty Nurses/Sitters: The hospital does not provide or keep a registry of private duty sitters or nurses. Any arrangement for private duty services is the obligation of the patient or family.

Newspapers: A complimentary local newspaper will be delivered to your room daily. Other newspapers are available for purchase near the North Tower Lobby.

Notary Public: The services of a Notary Public are often available for patients free of charge. For information, please contact the Patient Representative.

For the Hearing Impaired: A telecommunications device is available to assist hearing impaired patients or for patients who wish to communicate with a hearing impaired relative or friend. Arrangements can be made to have a person who uses sign language help a hearing impaired or deaf patient. For more information contact the nursing staff or dial '0' and ask the operator to page a Patient Representative.

Living Will: Living Will and Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare information is available from Social Work Services at 3436.

Voting: Patients who are Athens-Clarke County residents may vote in primary and regular elections through absentee ballots. For more information, please dial '0' and ask the operator to page a Patient Representative.

Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support: The Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support offers educational, emotional, and spiritual support to cancer patients and families. The center is a resource for patients during and after hospitalization. Staff members provide support and information about diagnosis, treatment, side effects, survivorship issues, and grief support for children, adolescents and adult patients and family members. The center offers a wide range of support groups, educational workshops, individual and family counseling, and an educational resource library. Services are offered at no charge. The center is on the hospital campus at 240 Talmadge Drive. To contact the center, call (706) 475-4900.
