Your Accommodations

Your Room
Your room assignment at Athens Regional Medical Center is based upon your admitting diagnosis and the bed availability on the day of your admission. All patients receive private room accommodations.

Your Hospital Bed
Hospital beds are electrically operated. The nursing staff will show you how to work your bed properly. Your hospital bed is probably higher and narrower than your bed at home. Bedside rails are for your protection. They may be raised at night or during the day at your request or if your assessed condition warrants, such as recovering from surgery or when taking certain medications.

Room Temperature
All patient rooms in the hospital are heated and air conditioned. If your room temperature is not comfortable, please notify the nursing staff.

Calling Your Nurse
A button to call the nursing staff is located at your bedside. When you press the button, the nursing station is alerted that you need assistance and a light flashes at the Nurses Station. A staff member will respond to your signal as soon as possible.

During the Night
Please stay in bed after you have been prepared for the night. Strange surroundings and sleeping medications may create a hazard if you get out of bed. For assistance during the night, use your call button. The nursing staff will be happy to assist you.

Television
Color television sets are provided free of charge in each room. Please be considerate of other patients by playing TV sets softly and by turning off your set at bedtime.

Telephones
Telephones are provided in each room, except in the critical care units. Patients may receive calls in their rooms from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Local calls may be made any time from the room by dialing '8' and the number.

Long distance calls may be placed collect, with a calling card or billed to a third number by dialing 8, 0, the area code and number. To place collect calls or bill to a third party, dial 8+0+number. To charge a calling card/credit card, dial 8+1+calling card number. Should you have further questions, dial '0', and ask the hospital operator for assistance.

International calls can be placed by dialing 8, 011, Country Code, City Code, and Number. (Codes are listed in the Athens phone directory.) Family and friends may call your room by dialing (706) 475 and your room number (except in Labor & Delivery and Psychiatry). When a caller does not know the room number, they can call (706) 475-3642, and the Information Desk will transfer the call to the nurse's station.
